Fall 2006 Fashion
“What the heck?”
My roommate had just thrown me the 'Fashion' section of the Sunday, September 17, 2006 edition of The State newspaper, saying that I could have it because I'm "into that stuff." After being disappointed by the fact that the article was about Fall 2006 and NOT Spring 2007 – as Fall fashions come out in the Spring and Spring fashions come out in the Fall – I read (most of) the article on the front of the paper, interested to see what it had to say.
"Fall's obsession with the darker side signals a departure from the bright and happy colors of the past few years."
The article then goes on to discuss why darks are in this season as well as in what fabrics ("plush fabrics and furs"). It also broke down each colour, saying what shade of (insert color name here) will be in and why.
I wanted to bang my head on the desk. “Hello!!” I could hear myself saying. “Of course dark colours and furs and “plush fabrics” will be in! It's fall!” People like fabrics that will keep them warm and as the temperature goes down it takes with it the appearance of warm colours.
So really, as long as you were a good b.s.er and had minimal color theory knowledge, which I’m sure most if not all of us have, you could have written the article found in The State.
I continued reading, thinking to myself, “Perhaps the rest of the section will be a little more insightful as to the trends of Fall.” Alas, it was not.
Leggings are in! No duh; who doesn't own a pair by now?
Pile on and dangle your jewelry! We've been doing that for a few seasons now.
Short hair is in! Okay, perhaps some people didn't know this.
Short boots are in! I suppose if you haven't seen any commercials this season you wouldn't know.
Skinny jeans are in! The anti-fashion has been sporting these all year, thank you very much guys who like to wear girl pants and girls who have adopted guy pants – or more specifically, straight legged pants but in sizes that barely fit.
Capes and parkas are in! Actually, an oversized jacket is really more what's in, but it if keeps you warm then why not?
All in all, The State has nothing very insightful or interesting to read about for Fall 2006. And since there are pictures and give-away-the-article headings, you really don't need to read the article anyway. The only article you really might want to read is "Extreme Fashion" by Cathleen Conley Wedding, which briefly tells you what's in for all of your outfit essentials--- pants, tops, shoes, bags, jewelry.
