Monitering Emerging Stocking Trends

I never knew I cared so much about tights and stockings until I started looking over my entries. Oh well.

It seems that each fall someone trying to do something 'different' with stockings.


Chanel, pre-Fall 09

It seems Chanel is taking a page from Alexander McQueen Fall 08 sans the Amer-Appy-esque quality.

Opt for something lighter.

On the up side, it seems like we'll be moving away from black next fall (evident from the above and other collections).

My senior year of high school, for my fashion design final, my looks included a piece very similar to these stockings.

I'm glad fashion has caught up with me... 3 years later.

Welcome

After making countless doodles as a child, taking 2 fashion design courses, being a fashion merchandise minor for a semester, and compulsively checking fashion blogs and sites, I've found that I just can't get away from fashion.

Highwaters

(Lacoste - those pants are definitely above the shoe.)
Men's bottoms are getting shorter. Shorts have been above the knee and now pants are at or above the ankle. Time to show some skin, guy! (Good luck to the average guy to pull this one off.)


Layers

(Ralph Lauren - notice the shirt, tie, vest, AND jacket. Proenza Schouler - notice the dress, jacket, belt, and smaller jacket.)
Layers have been in for a few seasons now and guess what? They still are. But if you're going to go for it you need to go all the way with LOTS of layers.


Simplicity

If you're unsure of how to effectively layer pieces or feel like it’s just not your thing then opt for a simpler look this Spring.


Color

(Lacoste and Ralph Lauren)
Use color more as an accent – preferably yellow, which is showing up in a lot of collections – unless it's a simple piece.

Stripes

(Anna Sui, Proenza Schouler)
>Black and white – the two most classic colours – are in via stripes.


Interesting Collections

As a funny side-note: Lacoste’s collection went slightly 'emo' this Spring.

Those are some very, dare I say, skinny pants. And you’ve got to love the band-tee-esque shirt coupled with a pair of ‘slender’ straight leg pants.

Lacoste isn't the only one channeling the music scene. Anna Sui went rocker chic.


Marc Jacobs revealed a wonderful, more couture line.

Try wearing them in revolutionary ways.

Hands
This definitely isn’t one of my favourite looks for the season. Kinda weird, but at least people are experimenting.



Gloves
Don’t just pull out those same old hand warmers you’ve been toting around in your purse/pocket for years. Wear gloves that pop out and make their own statements instead of blending into your outfit.



Arctic Animals
Don’t just wear animal prints, wear prints of animals!



Neon Makeup
Get lost in nostalgia of warm weather with bold makeup colours.



Eclectic Fabrics
Uh... again, at least the fashion world is trying?



Cargo Apparel
If Karl Lagerfeld is wearing then you know you should be, too!



Leather Jackets
Make sure it's fitted!



Funky Stockings
This is my personal favourite 'innovation' for this Fall. Think that stockings are for little old ladies? Think again. Grab a wear of modern, stylized stockings.
